Arrest Ledger / Removal & Correction

Removal & correction requests

There is no fee to request review, correction, revision, or removal of an Arrest Ledger record.

ⓘ
An arrest is not a conviction. If a record is wrong, concerns a juvenile, or a charge was dismissed, discharged, expunged, reduced, or resulted in a not-guilty finding, please request review.
Fast voluntary review by email

Arrest Ledger voluntarily accepts removal and correction requests by email. Email is intended to make ordinary corrections easier; it is separate from the certified-mail procedure described below.

Please include
Full name, arrest date, arresting agency, Arrest Ledger page URL, what you want corrected or removed, and supporting documentation if relevant.

Do not send unnecessary sensitive information. We generally do not need your Social Security number, full date of birth, home address, personal phone number, financial information, medical information, or driver's-license information. Redact unrelated sensitive material from documents.

Other corrections and removals

You may request review even if your situation does not fit the statutory certified-mail procedure. Examples include a wrong-person match, incorrect arrest date, incorrect charge text, a juvenile record, a duplicate, a mismatched photograph, or reliable evidence that the displayed public record is materially outdated.

Arrest Ledger may ask for enough information to verify the correction, but no payment is required. If a record is removed, a nonpublic suppression identifier may be retained so future imports do not republish the same record automatically.

Expunged and nonpublic records

South Carolina law provides that certain expunged arrest and booking records, mugshots, and fingerprints are no longer public government records, and summary-court law requires qualifying charges to be removed from Internet-based public records. Arrest Ledger's policy is to remove verified expunged records rather than intentionally preserve a public-facing copy.

South Carolina statutory certified-mail procedure

S.C. Code §17-1-60(D) provides a specific procedure for qualifying South Carolina arrest and booking records. A qualifying request must be made in writing by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the publisher's registered agent, principal place of business, or primary residence.

The statute requires the request to include: the person's name; date of arrest; arresting law-enforcement agency; certified documentation showing that the original charges were discharged, dismissed, expunged, or resulted in a not-guilty finding; and a complete and accurate description of where the record appears, including the URL when applicable.

Certified-mail requests
If you need to submit a request by certified mail under S.C. Code §17-1-60, contact removals@southcarolinaarrests.com for the current mailing address.

For a qualifying request, Arrest Ledger will remove the covered arrest/booking record without a fee or other consideration within 30 days of receipt. If the original charge was discharged or dismissed because the person pleaded to a lesser included or different offense, the record will be revised to reflect that offense instead of the original charge as required by §17-1-60(D)(2).

✓
No payment required. Arrest Ledger does not charge to review, revise, remove, or refrain from publishing an arrest or booking record.
